Raúl Fernández becomes first Spanish Moto3 Junior World Champion

FIM CEV Valencia 2 –  Ángel Nieto Team rider takes podium and fourth position at last round of the season to win the title

Raúl Fernández was crowned 2018 Moto3 Junior World Champion, this weekend at Valencia. Becoming the first Spaniard to win the title in its present incarnation. Previously, when the competition was known as the Spanish Championship. Maverick Viñales (2010), Álex Rins (2011) and Álex Márquez (2012) all earned the prestigious honour. The Ángel Nieto Team rider closed the season with a podium and a fourth position at the last round.

The Ángel Nieto Team rider was part of the leading group. In the first race of the day at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. With his sights set on finishing inside the top three to celebrate the title from the podium. Fernández avoided unnecessary risks in the final part of the race, and crossed the line third mathematically sealing the Junior World Championship. In the second race he fought for the victory. The Spanish rider was up into the lead with few laps remaining but the contest was then red flagged due to a crash on track. Fernández took the restart from fourth on the grid and in the end placed just 1 tenth off the rostrum in his final Moto3 Junior World Championship event.
